Presentation by

Helen Ruddy, MS, FNP, President of Greater New York Chapter
Ms Ruddy touched on many problems within the health care system.
The first part of her talk was a report on a presentation by Claire Fagin, PhD, RN Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus at University of Pennsylvania. Ms Fagin is a founding member of Nurses Network for a National Health Program and co-author of the book "Abandonment of the Patient, Impact of Profit-driven Care on the Public". The point of emphasis is that CEOs and Boards of Directors have a legal mandate to serve the shareholders, not the patients. Graphs showed the nearly 2000% increase in administrators compared to a negligible increases in physicians and nurses. Patient satisfaction with health care and delays to treatment were compared for several countries. The United States was near the bottom in both areas.
